Imagine finishing a full ski day, heading back to Skipping Rock for the sauna and hot tub and then sitting down together for a private dinner without anyone having to cook.

That's our kind of vacation.

Stock the Cottage Without the Grocery-Store Chaos

Skipping Rock has two fully equipped kitchens, so there is plenty of room to cook big breakfasts, family dinners and late-night snacks.

But that doesn't mean grocery shopping has to be part of your vacation.

Consider arranging your grocery order ahead of time and choosing a delivery window around your arrival. Delivery availability varies by retailer, date and cottage address, so book early for holiday and ski weekends.

For an extra-local touch, you can also stock up from Grey County farms and food producers before arriving.

Skipping Rock tip: Plan one big breakfast, one easy dinner, plenty of snacks and your favourite warm drinks. Then outsource the rest.

Arrange Transportation Before You Arrive

If you have a big group heading to the slopes, dinner or another activity, arranging transportation in advance means fewer vehicles, less coordinating and no arguing over who is driving.

Driverseat Owen Sound

Driverseat provides door-to-door transportation throughout Grey and Bruce counties, including private-event transportation and other pre-arranged travel services. They recommend providing advance notice when booking.

Approx. base location from Skipping Rock: 30–35 minutes; service is door-to-door, so ask for a Skipping Rock pickup quote.

Build a Welcome Basket for Your Group

Arriving at the cottage should feel like the beginning of the vacation—not the beginning of a grocery run.

Consider arranging a welcome spread with:

  • A North & Nest grazing experience

  • Local cheese and charcuterie

  • Fresh bread and crackers

  • Locally roasted coffee

  • Hot chocolate

  • Marshmallows

  • Breakfast provisions

  • Fresh fruit

  • Pastries

  • Sparkling non-alcoholic drinks

  • A few favourite snacks for movie night

Have everything sorted before the group arrives and suddenly hosting 10, 12 or 16 people feels considerably easier.

Warm Up With a Cozy Post-Ski Meal

If your perfect après-ski involves taking off your boots, warming up and settling in for a cozy meal, there are plenty of options around Meaford and Blue Mountain.

Alphorn Restaurant

For classic ski-country atmosphere, Alphorn is a fun addition to a Blue Mountain day. Its chalet-inspired setting gives it exactly the kind of cozy, old-school ski vibes you want after spending the day outside.

It’s an especially convenient option to build into your ski-day itinerary before making the drive back to Skipping Rock for an evening by the fire.

Make Skipping Rock Your Own Après-Ski Retreat

Of course, one of the best parts about staying at Skipping Rock is that you don't actually have to go anywhere after skiing.

After a cold day outside, head back to the cottage, trade your ski gear for comfortable clothes and make the property your own private winter retreat.

Warm Up in the Sauna

There is something about stepping into a warm sauna after spending the day outside that makes a winter cottage getaway feel extra special.

At Skipping Rock, the private sauna gives your group another space to slow down and enjoy the cottage rather than immediately rushing into the next activity.

Make it part of your après-ski ritual: come home from the mountain, put away the gear, change into something comfortable and spend some time warming up in the sauna before the rest of the evening begins.

For groups, it also means everyone can choose their own version of après-ski. Some guests can relax in the sauna, others can start dinner in one of the kitchens, the kids can head for the games and everyone can eventually meet back together for the evening.

No reservations. No driving. No trying to coordinate another outing.

Just another reason to stay in.

Then Head for the Hot Tub

And then there’s the private outdoor hot tub.

Few things say winter getaway quite like sitting outside in the warmth while the air around you is cold and the cottage is waiting just steps away.

After skiing or snowboarding at Blue Mountain, hiking through the snow or spending the afternoon exploring Grey County, the hot tub makes coming home part of the experience.

Bring your swimsuits, step outside and settle in under the winter sky before heading back inside for dinner, games, a movie or an evening by the fire.

It’s après-ski without leaving the property.

Remember: Après-Ski Doesn't Have to Mean Going Anywhere

Some of the best après-ski happens right at Skipping Rock.

Come home, drop the winter gear, change into your comfiest clothes and decide what comes next.

Hot tub?

Sauna?

Fireplace?

Games?

A catered dinner?

Charcuterie around the kitchen island?

All of the above?

Skipping Rock sleeps up to 16 guests between the Log Cabin and Garage Loft, with seven bedrooms, three bathrooms, two kitchens, fireplaces, a hot tub, sauna, games and plenty of space for everyone to spread out.

You don't have to pack every minute of your getaway with plans.

Sometimes the best plan is coming home.

Your Stress-Free Ski Weekend Checklist

Before you arrive:

  • Reserve ski and snowboard equipment.

  • Arrange equipment delivery or pickup.

  • Reserve your ski days and activities.

  • Order groceries ahead.

  • Pre-order your North & Nest or local charcuterie spread.

  • Book a catered dinner or private chef.

  • Arrange group transportation if needed.

  • Plan an easy first-night dinner.

  • Stock up on breakfast and après-ski snacks.

  • Pack swimsuits for the hot tub.

  • Pack cozy clothes for evenings at the cottage.

  • Most importantly: leave some empty space in your itinerary.

Because a getaway shouldn't leave you needing another vacation.
